Pet insurance on Long Island.
A single emergency vet visit on Long Island can run $2,000โ$8,000. Pet insurance turns that into a predictable monthly cost. Click any provider below for our full review.
How pet insurance works
You pay a monthly premium. When something happens, you submit the vet bill โ most insurers reimburse you, a few pay your vet directly. You pay your deductible plus your copay (usually 10-30%). Pre-existing conditions are excluded, so the time to enroll is when your pet is young and healthy, not after a problem starts.

The straight answer
If you adopted recently, enroll within 14 days โ that's when most insurers will cover anything congenital that surfaces later. If you have a healthy adult, run the numbers on Healthy Paws or Trupanion. Want preventive care bundled in? Look at Pumpkin or Embrace. Have a parrot or reptile? Nationwide is basically your only option.
